Being a volunteer is a privilege. It is also an important step one makes to turn compassion into action. One can choose to volunteer at the shelter or in your community; the choice is yours. Please consider carefully before you make the commitment, as once you do, you are expected to put in 2 hours of service every week or you will not be considered a volunteer. Certificates of volunteer service will not be issued unless the hours have been consistently logged in for minimum 3 months of service.

Shelter volunteering is for people who are very comfortable and experienced with animals. This requires energy, patience and some training. You will have to go through a practical animal handling session and an interview session with the Shelter Manager or Volunteer Coordinator for this.

Shelter volunteer duties are:
  • Animal Rescue
  • Dog walking & grooming
  • Puppy socializing & grooming every Saturday 4 to 5 PM.
Outside the shelter activities for all volunteers are:
  • Collecting useful items for shelter animals like old newspaper, old cotton cloth, collars, leashes, bedding, toys etc. (no training required for this)
  • Manning a help desk for public awareness (This needs some study and a mock quiz on the animal welfare guide will be required)
  • Join the Golden Fund for animals: Donate rupees 500 every month to help animals.
  • Arranging the feeding of shelter animals on birthdays, anniversary or festival days. It takes only 365 kind people to cover feeding of our shelter animals over the year so sign up today!
Important points to make volunteering fun:
  • Manning a help desk for public awareness during important events(This needs some study of the animal welfare guide – please download from website)
  • Taking animals home with you for special care and finding homes for them.
  • Conducting meetings or awareness sessions on animal issues in your community to come up with ideas on how to help animals locally.
  • Surveying the number of stray dogs and puppies in your area for GHMCABC/ARV programme (sterilization and vaccination against Rabies).
