Do not sacrifice animals: Amala
Venkatagiri (Nellore Dist.): "We do jataras and pujas for the good of society. Devotees can perform pujas with flowers and coconuts and fulfil their vow by offering ash gourds. But, please don't sacrifice animals in the name of offerings to deities," Animal Welfare Board member and Blue Cross of Hyderabad founder Akkineni Amala, appealed to devotees.

Ms. Amala who was here to perform puja to 'Poleramma Talli', on the eve of 'jatara' to be celebrated on September 29 and 30, offered a saree to the deity and broke a ash gourd in front of the temple on Sunday. Locals thronged the shrine to have a glimpse of the actress-turned-animal welfare activist.

She participated in the campaign organised by the Animal Welfare Board, Police, Endowments, Cow Protection and Animal Preservation Committee and other animal welfare organisations against animal sacrifice during the 'Poleramma Jatara' in Venkatagiri town.
