Achievements of Blue Cross of Hyderabad since 1992

Blue Cross of Hyderabad was the first organization in 1993 to start a full fledged animal rescue service for sick, injured and abused animals from the streets of Hyderabad.

Till date Blue Cross has extended help to 3,633,343 animals on record.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad has been instrumental, along with the efforts of Animal Welfare Board of India and Smt.Maneka Gandhi in making the nation shift from killing street dogs to sterilizing and vaccinating them as community dogs. BCH was instrumental for GHMC to rewrite the Municipal Law to include the sterilization and vaccination of community dogs as their responsibility. BCH was the first AWO in Hyderabad to start the ABC programme and has since sterilized and vaccinated 69,735 homeless/community dogs. BCH provided orientation for GHMC Veterinarians regarding AWBI SOP for ABC/ARV and trained 100 GHMC dog catchers in using nets to catch dogs.

Along with the AWBI, Blue Cross of Hyderabad has been part of initiating Animal Welfare as a subject for Veterinary Council of Andhra Pradesh, Veterinary Colleges, for A.P. Transport Department Inspectors and A.P.Police Academy.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad was instrumental in motivating A.P. Transport department to re-write the transportation of animals, rules, to include humane measures in A.P. State.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad was part of a nationwide animal welfare movement to implement the CPCSEA rules in animal testing laboratories.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad was instrumental in efforts to have biology dissection removed from school syllabus in A.P. BCH has hosted and organized capacity building workshops for all groups working in A.P. for the welfare of animals under auspices of AWBI.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad has given animal welfare talks to over 500 educational institutions and motivated students to understand and work for the welfare of animals.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad was instrumental in shutting down illegal wildlife markets in Hyderabad and rescuing over 12 performing bears.
